top
Q: What online resources and services are available using my student User ID and password?

Q: How do I change my password using the Self-Serve Password Utility?
A: To activate your User ID in the new system, you will need to change your assigned password using the Self-Serve Password Utility. The utility supports the following browsers:
- Internet Explorer 6.0 with SP/1
- Mozilla 1.7.3
The process will take about 5 minutes of your time, and you will be asked to provide answers to 5 out of 10 questions. These answers will enable you to login in the Self-Serve Password Utility in case you forget the password. You may change your choice of questions or answers at any time from this Utility.

Please call the Contact Centre to have your password reset over the telephone. You will be asked several questions to verify your identity.

Q: My account is suspended. How can I unlock it?
A: After 5 consecutive failed login attempts to the Self-Serve Password Utility, the system displays a dialog box stating that your account is suspended. The system then automatically sends an email message containing your password to the email account registered in Banner (for staff) or Stu-View (for students).
If you have not registered an email address, contact the following for assistance with unlocking your account:
When coming in person, please bring your student ID card and another piece of picture identification (e.g. Driver's License, Health Card) with you.
If calling in, you will be asked several questions to verify your identity.

Q: How often do I need to change my password?
A: Your password will expire automatically once per semester (i.e. every 17 weeks) for employees and once per year for students, though you may choose to change it more frequently. When a "password expired" message is displayed, please go to the
Self-Serve Password Utility to change your password. You must correctly answer 3 challenge questions.

Q: Until now I have not had to login to use LLC computers. Why the change?
A: Your User ID and password are used to authenticate you to the college network. This process prevents unauthorized access to the college’s network resources by validating the User ID and password. This change helps ensure a computer is available when you need one, since only students are now able to use them.
Please note that by logging into the network, you are acknowledging that you accept, and will comply with, the college’s information technology policies.
top
Q: How about wireless access?
A: Wireless access is currently available in the LLC and selected common areas. For wireless laptop users network login authorizes access through the college network to the internet. In order to establish a connection with the college's wireless network, you may need to adjust your laptop's settings. Details on
wireless configuration settings are available.
If prompted for a User ID, use the same one you use to access the Self-Serve Password Utility.
Please note that by logging into the network, you are acknowledging that you accept, and will comply with, the college’s information technology policies.

Q: What is the inactivity timer and why do you have one?
A: The inactivity timer is automation that tracks the use of resources. If you have not used your network connection for 15 minutes you will be automatically logged off of the network. This feature is designed to protect your account from unauthorized access. For your own protection be sure to logoff when you are finished using college information technology services.
top
Q: Why do I have to use a complex password? Why does it have to be changed so often?
A: The College models its information security policies on the international standard,
ISO/IEC 17799:2005. Your password and, by extension, access to your personal information is better protected when your password contains more types of characters and is routinely changed.
