Apprentice Program
Download Cook Apprenticeship Brochure (pdf*)
A Cook apprenticeship is a great way to go if you want hands-on learning, lots of flexibility and the freedom to earn while you learn!
George Brown College Cook Apprentice basic program will teach you the real skills and techniques you need to prepare excellent food in any
quantity. After a year of on-the-job training, the advanced program will develop and expand your skills into areas like:
- à la carte food preparation
- pastry and desserts
- contemporary cuisine
- kitchen management
You have the flexibility to choose whether you want to study full-time or part-time, which leaves you free to work at the same time you
are studying. You can do each program in 14 weeks full-time, or 30 weeks part-time.
By starting out as an apprentice, you’ll be well on your way to an exciting and rewarding career as a chef or a cook. Apprentices
can earn official Red Seal certification as a Cook from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities by completing on-the-job and
classroom training under the sponsorship of a registered employer.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY
You must be registered as a Cook apprentice with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and have a registered employer sponsor
and at least one year of industry experience. You must also have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with credits at or above the general
level, or qualify for mature student status.

Student success in college requires well developed learning skills and attitudes (such as being able to work independently,
participate in a team, be well-organized, develop good work habits, and show initiative). These skills are as important as prior academic
