Student success in college requires well developed learning skills and attitudes (such as being able to work independently, participate in a team, be well-organized, develop good work habits, and show initiative). These skills are as important as prior academic achievement. Applicants should have thoroughly developed these skills and attitudes before beginning their college programs.

Note: Due to ongoing program improvements courses are subject to change without notice.

OUR PROGRAM

Students are trained within the guidelines of the Denturist’s scope of practice. This includes: treatment planning, design, fabrication and fitting of complete, partial, immediate and implant-supported dentures. Curriculum topics also include the study of mouthguards, anti-snoring devices, teeth whitening and implants.

The program consists of a challenging curriculum including academic, clinical and “hands-on” laboratory skills. The students will study science, dental sciences, health promotion and Denturist practice management. Students will learn to work within an interprofessional learning environment fostering interprofessional skills.

The clinical evaluation is competency based, thus making the program length approximately three years. Please note: based on individual competency achieved, graduation dates may surpass three years.

All areas of study will observe the International Baseline Competencies Profile for Denturist Education.

The program is accredited by the Denturist Association of Canada (DAC) and sanctioned by the International Federation of Denturists (IFD). Graduates of this program must successfully complete the licensing examination to be eligible for registration by the College of Denturists of Ontario in order to practice as a Denturist.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Clinical Pre-placement Health Form
Students must meet all medical and legal requirements for this program outlined on the Pre-Placement Health Form. This may take up to four months. To see those requirements and to download your program health form visit www.georgebrown.ca/preplacement. Students who are unable to comply will be unable to complete their field placement and therefore unable to graduate. All costs, service fees and fines associated with the overall health form requirements are the responsibility of the student. For more information, please contact Suzette Martinuzzi, Pre-placement Coordinator at smartinu@georgebrown.ca
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR Level-C) Certification
All students must successfully complete the approved CPR Level-(C) course and it must be renewed annually, before commencing the clinical lab courses. These requirements are a pre-requisite for entry into the clinical practicum.

Students will not be eligible to participate in the clinical area if they do not hold current CPR level-(C) certificate. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange for and take the CPR course outside of regularly scheduled classes. You may register and take these courses at any Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) approved First Aid Training establishment available in your area.Opens a new browser window

The CPR level-(C) certificate must be presented to the student’s assigned clinical professor on or before the first clinical practice day of each semester in order for the student to take part in clinical practice in the agency assigned. All costs, service fees and fines associated with this requirement are the responsibility of the student. For more information, please download and read carefully your program health form at www.georgebrown.ca/preplacement or contact Suzette Martinuzzi, Pre-placement Coordinator at smartinu@georgebrown.ca

This program is unique in Ontario.

WORK PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

There is a field placement opportunity for all students in the sixth semester of the program.

ADDITIONAL COSTS

There will be additional costs to the program in each year of study, including textbooks, appropriate laboratory/clinical attire, personal protective equipment, and a tool kit for each year of the program. These costs must be paid by the tuition due date.
