Aboriginal Student Services at George Brown College

 

Aboriginal Initiatives

This bursary covers one year of tuition and was established in memory of the college’s Board of Governors.

Aboriginal Collection in the St. James Learning Resource Centre

A separately-housed, circulating collection of 350 books and videos on topics including aboriginal history, art, law, languages, and lore.  The library is open to all students and helps promote awareness and knowledge of aboriginal content and issues.

Partnerships

A partnership has been created with Negahneewin College at Confederation College in Thunder Bay.  This will be lead to exchanges of the curriculum, students, and faculty.  A process is in development to deliver their applied degree Indigenous Leadership and Community Development collaboratively, with students doing part of the degree in each college.

Community Involvement

George Brown College has an Academic Upgrading (OBS) partnership with Council Fire, in addition to, internship and apprenticeship training programs with Miziwe Biik and Anishnawbe Health Centre.  George Brown College works on fostering relationships and actively promoting the Indigenous Peoples’ Education Circle.
