BRYAN FOSTER
Sport and Event Marketing Program - B400
Graduated 2004

Sports, particularly hockey, is Bryan Foster's cup of tea so it makes perfect sense that he work for a Canadian company synonymous with the Canadian pastime.

The George Brown College graduate landed a 14-month contract at Tim Hortons head office in Oakville where he is working on some well-known programs like Timbits Hockey, Camp Day and game days with the Kitchener Rangers and the Oshawa General OHL hockey teams.

"It's a big learning curve right now because there are so many different programs, and I'm learning many different aspects," he says. "It's exciting because it's a big organization."

After finishing a business administration degree at Laurier University, Bryan decided to enrol in the Sports and Event Marketing program at George Brown so he could mix his love of sports with a career in marketing.

"I applied to GBC's Sport and Event Marketing program because I heard it was the best, and I wanted to learn more about the industry and get sports on my resumé," he explains.

He completed the postgraduate program in 2004, which included a four-month co-op placement with the Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League.

George Brown's program, he says, helped take him in the direction he wanted to go.

He still keeps in touch with his professors at George Brown, many of whom provided him with a lot of knowledge, help and support. In fact, it was one of his professors who helped him network with a contact at Tim Hortons, enabling him to get an informational interview with the coffee giant. Bryan was then informed of a job opening months later.

Bryan has been fascinated with sports for as long as he can remember, having played volleyball, baseball, basketball and hockey so the Tim Hortons sports programs are close to his heart.

"Tim Hortons is very big at the grassroots level. They promote programs that help kids grow - that's the most exciting part, allowing kids to have more confidence and allowing them to grow as people," he says.

Bryan's choice to get a George Brown education has enabled him to be a part of the excitement and satisfaction that comes from helping kids develop through sports.

"I just knew it would be more enjoyable for me to market something that I was genuinely passionate about."
