"After graduating from high school, I was confused about what
I wanted to do with my life. I knew I had to go to school
but didn't know for what or where. My mom mentioned the
name George Brown College
and told me to check it out, considering that's where
my uncle and aunt studied when they first arrived in
Canada. I ventured onto the St. James
campus one late afternoon and found out that there was
a GBC open house happening. I got to talk to GBC students,
staff and faculty. I looked
over the full-time calendar and decided that I was applying
to George Brown. My first day through those glass doors
were scary. I knew no
one. But I was motivated and wanted a good education
in marketing. That's right, I chose the Business
Administration - Marketing program. A week
later, I found out all my teachers had worked in the marketing industry
before. I was ecstatic. Teachers were teaching me what I needed to know,
it wasn't just straight out of the books. Three years later, I graduated
at the top of my class. Taking advantage of all the great opportunities
that the College was offering me, I headed to University to gain my
degree. I appreciated what I was learning at university more because
of what and how the Brown had taught me. When I found out that George
Brown College was going to hire me as their Liaison Officer, a.k.a.
Student Recruiter, I was jumping for joy. Not only because they were
going to pay me, but because I was going to do what I was trained, taught
and loved to do. I was out promoting the college system. I was able
to share my experience with prospective students. An opportunity that
wasn't there for me when I was trying to decide where to go in high
school. My education and career began at George Brown. It's been five
years at the Brown and it's time for me to move on. I have now moved
on to a more senior recruiting position at another college, but the
great thing about it is I will still be on the road promoting this fabulous
college system that turns graduates into industry leaders.
See you on the road,
