Q: I am trying to contact the George Brown College Dental Clinic?
A: We used to be called the George Brown College Dental Clinic; we are now the Interprofessional Learning Clinic. We still are
the Dental Clinic but are now offering other services such as Hearing Assessments, Fitness and Lifestyle Assessments and Health Promotion Services.
Q: How soon can I get an appointment?
A: We will register you in our computer and then place you on our wait list and as soon as a student becomes available the student
will contact you to arrange an appointment. The student will follow up directly with you to arrange any future appointments. Due to
program requirements and academic schedules wait lists can sometimes be long.
Q: How long does treatment take?
A: It depends on the student’s clinical requirements. Students follow schedules that are assigned by program coordinators, you and
the student will discuss appointment times that are suitable to both of you. All appointments are up to 3 hours long and there may be approximately
4 – 6 appointments to complete your treatment.
Q: Why does treatment take so long?
A: All services are provided by students, their work must be monitored by licensed professionals who are there to guide and instruct as the student
is performing services.
Q: I have a toothache, how soon can I be seen?
A: We are not a full service dental clinic; we suggest that you call the University of Toronto dental clinic or a dentist of your choice
if you are experiencing any type of dental emergency. The emergency number for the University of Toronto is 416-979-4927.
Q: Do you have appointments on Saturday?
A: No, our hours are Monday to Friday and most days from 8am to 7pm, with 3 intake times, 8am, 12pm and 4pm. Not all programs
are available daily and at all intake times.
Q: I’m a senior, do you give senior discounts?
A: We offer low cost dental care; our fees are very reasonable and are discounted in comparison to private dental offices. Please
refer to our current Fee Schedule for service fees.
Q: What kind of dental work do you do?
A: Dental Services that we provide are oral hygiene assessment of teeth and gums, hygiene scaling and polishing, radiographs, fabrication
of complete and partial dentures repairs and relines, fillings, veneers and bonding.
Q: I don’t live in Toronto, can I still get an appointment?
A: As long as you meet the program requirements and can attend the appointments scheduled by your student you can be a client here. We
have rules regarding missed appointments. We ask that you provide 24 hours notice if you are not able to attend an appointment. If
2 appointments are missed without adequate notice, you may be dismissed from the program.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: We offer low cost dental care and our fees are very reasonable, please refer to our current Fee
Schedule for service fees. For
Hygiene Services payment is expected in full before treatment can begin. For Denture Services treatment will not proceed without payment
and the account must be paid in full before receiving dentures. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Debit Card, and cash for payment.
Q: Do you accept Dental Insurance?
A: We do not bill your insurance company directly for your treatment. After your treatment has been paid, we will give you a completed
insurance form to send to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Q: Do you treat children?
A: We treat children in Oral Health for examination, teeth brushing and polishing. Children must be accompanied by a legal guardian;
if this is not possible we will have you sign a Provision of Guardianship form to grant permission to a temporary guardian of your choice while
your child is in treatment.
Q: If I am going to get dentures do I need to have my teeth removed before coming in to the Clinic?
A: You may either contact your dentist or come in for a consultation appointment in our Denturism Clinic.
Q: I don’t speak English, can you find me a student that speaks my language?
A: When possible we do try to match students to clients when language is an issue, but we are not always successful. All clients must
understand the consent forms which they are required to sign. They also must be able to understand their student’s instructions and
directions for treatment. Anyone who is not fluent in English must bring an interpreter with them or work may not be done. George
Brown College regrets that we are not able to provide translation service.
Q: Do you accept ODSP or Ontario Works recipients for treatment?
A: When you register in Client Services you must identify yourself as an ODSP or an Ontario Works recipient. At your first appointment
you must bring documentation with you such as a current ODSP card, Statement of Assistance or Drug Card from Ontario Works. For denture clients
a treatment plan will be submitted to the insurance company that administers these plans and treatment will not proceed until we have approval
of the amount submitted in writing. ODSP will cover Hygiene and Restorative services, but Ontario Works does not cover these services, it
is an emergency plan only. If you reside outside of the Greater Toronto area please contact your local Social Service office as coverage
varies from district to district.
Q: Do I need an appointment if I would like a hearing or fitness assessment?
A: For hearing assessments only certain days are offered for appointments, please check with Client Services and they will schedule an appointment
for you. For Fitness assessment please let someone in Client Services know that you are interested and they will notify the Fitness Department
and you will be contacted by them to set up an appointment.
Q: Is there a charge for Hearing or Fitness assessments?
A: No
