The School of Design at George Brown College actively participates with the design industry for many special exhibits and competitions. With our partners, students are encouraged to get involved in various events to make those important industry connections. There is always something exciting happening at the School of Design.

The School of Design hosts PUSH! Design Year End Event showcasing the best student works from Graphic Design, Art & Design Foundation, Design Management and Game Development.

The School of Design presents "Imagine Lota", a photography exhibition by Michelle Hotchin. Michelle manages the Institute without Boundaries program at the college and has been working with her students on the revitalization of the City of Lota. These photos show  the spirit of Lota through vibrant colors,its resilient people and incredible natural beauty. Exhibition dates: May 5-29, 2011 at School of Design (230 Richmond St East). Opening reception on May 5, 2011 - to rsvp please send an email to alee@georgebrown.ca.


>Luigi Ferrara, Director of the Centre for Arts and Design, awarded with Excellence in Education award

Photo of Luigi Ferrara accepting an awardLuigi Ferrara, Director of the Centre for Arts and Design, was recently awarded with an Excellence in Education Award by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Ontario Research and Information Transfer team.

In presenting the award in the Innovative Teaching of Sustainability Projects category, Steve Jacques of the CMHC said to Ferrara: “I would like to congratulate you for successfully integrating sustainable concepts into the academic curriculum. Your efforts have enriched the educational experience of your students and your community.”

Two of the more recent examples of sustainable concepts that have been integrated into the curriculum in the Centre for Arts and Design include the Canuhome and Bike Line.

This exhibition looks at the diversity and culture of our city interpreted through images taken by Toronto photographer Andre Fortier and students from George Brown College.

Student and Alumni Photography Competition
Call for Submissions

If you are a current student or alumni of George Brown College, contact to submit photographs that represent your vision of diversity. An opening reception and awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 6, 2010. Winners will receive:

  • First prize $200
  • Second prize $150 and
  • Third prize $100.

Deadline for submissions: April 19, 2010.
