Achievements at home and abroad
Have you always wanted to study in a different country? Your early childhood training at George Brown College could be the time to make it happen.
George Brown’s reach, through its celebrated child development training programs, extends beyond Canada’s borders to two international
destinations: China and Jamaica. These study abroad programs allow students to gain valuable cross-cultural experience working with children.
And the host communities also benefit in many ways.
The China Project
Since 2008, students in the Early Childhood Education program have completed one-month study abroad internships at Regent International Preschool
in the city of Suzhou, China. To learn about their experiences, in their words, click here.
The Jamaica Project
This partnership between George Brown and Jamaica’s Early Childhood Commission has resulted in an improvement in how 94% of Jamaican children
under the age of 5 years of age learn and develop. Through knowledge exchanges between faculty at George Brown’s School of Early Childhood
and policy makers in Jamaica, the project has enhanced learning in the areas of reading, math and science. Click here to learn
more about the Jamaica Project.
Talk Back Jamaica
Not only are faculty researchers involved in Jamaica’s early childhood education system, but so too are George Brown early education students.
To date 136 students have traveled to Jamaica to work with children in Westmoreland and in Portmore, suburbs of Kingston, Jamaica.
Another 44 early childhood education students from Jamaica have come to Toronto to work in George Brown’s lab schools. As you will discover
from reading student testimonials, these experiences are life changing for all! Click here

Awards
In 2007, the School of Early Childhood was honoured for its excellence in communicating international cooperation issues for its work through
the Jamaica Project.
Douglas E. Light Award
Two students in the second year of the Early Childhood Education program are honoured each year for their academic success and
involvement in their communities in support of children and their families. The award is named after a past president of the
college who was instrumental in the development of ECE at George Brown. The two winners this year were Ryan Campbell and Eve-Anne
Tremblay. |
