1. How do I apply for vulnerable sector police record check?
- For students who currently reside in the Toronto Area (your postal code starts with an “M”)
If you need to apply or renew your annual vulnerable sector police record check and you currently reside in the Toronto area, you must book an appointment to see Suzette Martinuzzi at 416-415-5000, ext. 3415 or
, in order to receive a copy of Toronto Police Service vulnerable sector police record check application form. Please bring two pieces of government photo ID at your scheduled appointment.
After the authorized representative signs your Toronto Police Service application form, you must download and follow the Student Instruction Sheet carefully in how to pay and mail-in your application form to Toronto Police Service. Please note that it will take up to 10 to 12 weeks to process your application.
Students registered in the School of Nursing program may also obtain the Toronto Police application form in the School of Nursing Office located at 200 King St. East, Building A, on the 7th Floor, St. James Campus.

Should you live in another region (such as Durham , Halton , Peel , York ) or other province, please check their website to find out more information in how you can obtain their application form. Please be advised that these regional police service can take up to 6 to 8 weeks to process your application.
2. Why do I need to apply or renew the vulnerable sector police record check annually?
- In compliance with request from our clinical and field placement partners such as health care institutions, school boards and agencies, all students registered in the following programs below must complete a vulnerable sector police record check on a yearly basis. These reference checks are done to protect our students, staff, and clientele who are considered “vulnerable persons”. All cost are the responsibility of the student.

- H402-Food & Nutrition Management (Post Graduate)
3. What if I do not received my vulnerable sector police record results by the specific program health form deadline?
- If you fail to provide proof of annual vulnerable sector police record check result, you will not be eligible to be part of clinical or field placement.
4. What if I have a previous or known history of criminal police record
- Depending on the nature of the history of your criminal police record, the placement agency will make a decision whether or not to accept the students for placement.
- Students denied placement by an agency on the grounds of a “not clear” police check will not be able to complete their practice placement, and therefore may be unable to complete the semester and the program.
- Please contact and discuss this issue with your Chair or Academic Coordinator.
5. What if I was advised to do fingerprints by RCMP which takes 120 days to receive the results? How will it affect my academic status into the program?
- You must follow the instructions given to you by RCMP, in order for the regional police service to continue processing your vulnerable sector police check form
- Unfortunately, you will not be eligible for field or clinical placement without the final results of your fingerprints and vulnerable sector police record.
