Counselling Workshop Descriptions

Acing Multiple Choice Tests will provide you with strategies for successfully preparing and writing multiple choice tests and exams.

Common Cents: Managing your Money
is a workshop that will help you improve how you handle your money. You’ll learn how to create a personal budget and understand more about handling your needs, wants and assessing both your income and your expenses.

Countdown to Finals will help you identify challenges you may face in preparing for finals get you started with a plan of action to get the most out of your studying.

Countdown to Midterms will help you identify challenges you may face in preparing for midterms and help you get started with a plan of action to get the most out of your studying.

Getting it Together & Keeping it Together
will provide you with techniques to set academic goals and stick to them! Both long term goals and short term goals will be explored in this workshop.

Learning and Study Strategies will explore strategies based on brain research to help you study smarter not longer. Learn a strategy to keep up with weekly reading assignments and turn class time into learning time.

Multiple Intelligences: Not how smart you are but how you are smart: Identifying and understanding our most developed intelligences helps us to choose the most effective strategies for learning and team work. It may be our ability to understand and cooperate with others (Interpersonal Intelligence), our ability to manipulate physical objects (Bodily/Kinesthetic Intelligence) or to learn and express using rhythm and melody ( Musical/Rhythmic Intelligence). Learn about applying your intelligences to best advantage.

Netiquette, or “network etiquette” in a high tech world will help increase your awareness of issues related to sending emails, text messages, and using your cell phone, mp3 player, laptop or any other gadget you own appropriately and effectively in the College or a work setting.

Note-Making will help you learn different note-making strategies, develop a personal technique and improve your ability to learn from lectures and textbooks.

Sleep Better, Work Smarter will help you learn more about the importance of sleep and give you strategies to determine how to improve your sleep.

Stress Management will help you identify major stress factors in your life and explore practical solutions to manage and/or change them.

Studying with Children Around: This workshop is for students who are parents/guardians. You will learn how to study at home effectively– even with your kids underfoot!

Succeeding as a Mature Student is a workshop that will allow mature students to share ideas about their unique challenges as students and learn effective ways to be successful at College.

Succeeding as a Second Career Student: If you are a Second Career Student, come to this workshop to meet other students in the Second Career program. This workshop will give you an opportunity to learn and share ideas and information about the program as well as gain effective strategies to be successful during your College experience.

Time Management will provide you with helpful information and strategies around managing your time. Using techniques learned in the workshop, you will begin to develop your own approach to managing your priorities.

Understanding Your Learning Style will explore your strengths in learning and help you recognize how you best take in and understand new learning for optimum use of your class and study time.

What’s What: Get Organized: Do you want to figure out how to organize you schoolwork? Come and discover how simple it can be. You will be shown easy techniques that will help you succeed in your college program.
