Examples of institute consulting projects:

The 519 Restaurant

The 519 is a meeting place for the local neighbourhood and broader Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender and Queer communities that provides opportunities that foster self-determination, civic engagement and community participation.

The Challenge: Explore alternatives for its new industrial kitchen in order to better serve the community.

The Result: The Institute prepared a business plan that emphasized community engagement.


The Raging Spoon

The Raging Spoon Catering Company is a long-standing and successful Ontario Council of Alternative Businesses (OCAB) venture offering employment opportunities for people marginalized by poverty or mental health issues.

The Challenge: Reopen the Raging Spoon café and find creative uses for its large community space.

The Result: The Institute conducted market research and developed an innovative marketing plan.


Centre for Social Innovation

The Centre for Social Innovation is a social enterprise with a mission to catalyze social innovation in Toronto and around the globe in order to turn economic, environmental, social and cultural challenges into opportunities to improve communities and the planet.

The Challenge: Leverage their success to help communities around the world inspire social innovation.

The Result: The Institute documented the Centre’s business model in a creative format for distribution globally in print and on the Web.


Beatz 2 Da Streetz

Beatz 2 Da Streetz is Toronto’s first non-profit arts program that aims to empower homeless and under-served youth to reach their full potential and become agents of positive social change through urban arts.

The Challenge: Track CD sales and performance revenue, and develop new revenue streams.

The Result: The Institute facilitated workshops in entrepreneurship and business modelling that helped create new revenue streams and a tracking system.
